In December of 2025 I began a blog “Craigavad miscellany” that you can find here. You can find a fuller discussion of my motivation on one of its pages. Here is an excerpt.
This then is the point of this blog. To form a record, a journal of sorts, of what I’ve read and pondered. To discuss matters that strike me as interesting. To pose questions about the world around us; to review and consider topics and articles that caught my interest; and to try and use mathematics (in a stumbling and amateur way) to give some insights into phenomena and topics that appeal to my warped brain. It will be diverse and eclectic. It may on occasions spill into other areas that interest me including sport (especially golf) and aspects of the “human condition”. I will try to be rigorous and objective, but mistakes and errors might (will!) occur: readers will hopefully point out such errors, inaccuracies, slips, blunders, misinterpretations, omissions, fallacies, faux pas, flaws, gaffes, solecisms or miscalculations. They may point me towards materials of relevance and, where ever possible, to help me improve any models I try and build.
It’s been a successful venture. Twenty odd posts later I’m beginning to build a modest following. The subjects have been broad. Maybe too diverse. Perhaps there is a tension between posts on science and mathematics on one side and sport including golf on the other.
This prompted me to create a sister blog, a parallel offering, where golf takes centre stage: “Craigavad golf”.
